i received a question from a student last week that i think is an amazingly practical question that will take you, me, us on a journey that will bring us to the door step of what all this "god" stuff means...

"how can you have faith in something you don't understand and know that this something is the RIGHT something?"

as our current series glimpses comes to an end tonight at the gathering we now know, at least in thought and can now verbalize that we know that we have this deep hunger and deep desire to pursue god because he is the only one that is lasting and that can bring lasting satisfaction to the emptiness we know all to often.

we now know this... but do we understand it!

can we understand it?

i love this question and i love the conversations that will come from the question...

do you know the times in life where circumstances hit you that ultimately have nothing to do with you yet you are responsible as to the outcome of the situation?

yes... this happens often in leadership
yes... i should be used to this by now

but sometimes it hurts more than other times... i have learned a ton of grace and love and the ability to forgive...

this situation has allowed me to see me from the perspective god...

a humbling experience...

don't shy away or turn from hard and tough situations... there is more times than not, light at the end of the tunnel and a lesson to be learned.

it makes smile when i hear people take a stand... even when they may be standing alone... i further enjoy watching the grace and love by which mr. huckabee answered the question. enjoy...

if we were honest with ourselves and we allowed ourselves to sit back and just wonder... wonder about this god... and who he is... and what he is like... and what he expects of us... most of us find ourselves caught in this mystery and caught in something that is way bigger than us. we may find ourselves caught between myth and reality, but the one thing i know to be true, is that each one of us thinks of things such a these.

so what are we to do with the hard questions of life?

if you ask science how did all this begin... its response would be, "probably by accident." and how will it end, "probably by accident."

i don't know about you, but the accidental life is not what i am looking for. i don't think that i am an accident, nor do i think you are an accident. everything points to a brilliant creator... a brilliant artist. the finger prints of god are everywhere...

just look...
you will see glimpses of him EVERYWHERE you look.

may we become aware...
may we see...

i can't begin to explain the conversations i had tonight and the stories that were shared with me tonight.

i once heard someone ask the question, "how do you know that you are being successful?" the answer i heard changed the way that i evaluate things now... the answer simply was... the stories.

you see... the stories ultimately have nothing to do with me, or necessarily what is happening here at the REALM particularly on wednesday nights at the gathering. they point to god and have his finger prints all over them.

you cannot miss the new series...

One of the great tragedies that i have found in my life and all too often in the lives of people all across the globe is how small and little we have made god.

A.W. Tozer states, "what comes into our minds when we think about god is the most important thing about us."

WOW... how and what we think about god determines everything about us!

in november we will catch a gimpse of god that we have never seen before, or that we all too often miss.

glimpses... the gathering @ the REALM in november.

ok... so i don't rant and rave much, especially on my blog... i think that the last time i did was about that ridiculous evangelism ducky thing, but i just seen something that i just cannot pass by that easily.

first off... let me preface this post by saying that i do not think it ok, nor responsible to "bash" things or people in general, let alone in a public venue as this... so with that qualification i am not bashing this, i am simply questioning the approach used.

ok, here we go... in staff meeting yesterday, one of the pastors had some promotional material for a new movie coming out in his stack of papers that caught my eye... i asked to see the material and to my wide-eyed astonishment this is what the title of the promo material said in big bold letters... "if you show it, they will come."

is that right?

really... how long is it going to take us to realize that gimmicks DON'T work and the longer we continue to try, the more deceptive this disenfranchised culture will become?

SERIOUSLY...

"if you show it, they will come" - they may come, but they're not coming back!
i am all for creative opportunities that are becoming more available to us to use for ministry... movies have at times a great opportunity to visually add or show truth in a creative way.

so, my beef is not at all with this movie... but absolutely with the mindset and approach to produce and program people to come, all the while in scripture we are told to GO... literally translated, "as you go" - meaning that in the way that you live your life...

when we live this way, talk this way, a "funny thing" begins to happen... "they" do begin to come, because it's real and authentic.

we are called to be different and go...

thank you to all the hundreds of people who made mission impossible a success once again. this was by far the most "fun" year we have ever had.

sorry to all those who got injured... 500 hundred crazy people in a field, on a pitch black night, running in opposite directions, everyone trying to be rambo or something... unfortunately, someone is going to get hurt... sorry that it had to be you.

well, another year in the books and it will be one to remember.

some of the boys and i met up at the REALM this morning @ 7:00am to begin loading the van and trailer that would soon be full of everything we have that is Mission Impossible. it is great to have some guys able to help in the set-up process due to the intense and heavy labor that goes into making this thing a reality.

so... i will say that head-quarters looks sick... and the tower, yeah... it is going to be really difficult to be able to get in this year. we are going back "old school" this year... now to those of you who are my faithful blog readers, i will give you a hint....

there is only ONE tower this year... and it is NOT in one of the same places as last year... this year more than ever, the teams that have the best strategy will win!
